Two males are facing charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, and child pornography after a recent investigation.
On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, the Regina Children’s Justice Centre (RCJC), the Saskatchewan Integrated Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) and the Regina Police Service Vice Unit entered into a sexual assault investigation where a person under the age of 16 was the victim. The investigation revealed that the victim had been sexually assaulted by two male suspects over a period of several years.
On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, police arrested the two suspects who were charged with the following offences:
Thirty-six year old Matthew KROHN, of Regina, is charged with:
- Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 Years of Age [CC 271];
- Sexual Interference [CC 151];
- Invitation to Sexual Touching [CC 152];
- Making Child Pornography [CC 163.1(2)];
- Making Available Child Pornography [CC 163.1(3)];
- Possession of Child Pornography [CC 163.1(4)];
- Obtain Sexual Services for Consideration from a Person Under 18 Years of Age [CC 286.1(2)]; and
- Luring a Person Under 18 Years of Age By Means of Telecommunication [CC 172.1(1)(a)].
Thirty-six year old David KROHN, of Regina, is charged with:
- Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 Years of Age [CC 271];
- Sexual Interference [CC 151];
- Making Child Pornography [CC 163.1(2)];
- Possession of Child Pornography [CC 163.1(4)]; and
- Luring a Person Under 18 Years of Age By Means of Telecommunication [CC 172.1(1)(a)].
Matthew KROHN and David KROHN made their first appearances on these charges in Provincial Court on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. Matthew KROHN’S next court appearance will be in Provincial Court on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. David KROHN’S next court appearance will be in Provincial Court on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
The Saskatchewan Integrated Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) is comprised of investigators from the R.C.M.P., Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.
The Regina Children’s Justice Centre (RCJC) is a child-friendly integrated unit consisting of members of the Regina Police Service, child protection workers from the Ministry of Social Services, and community partners from the Saskatchewan Health Authority Child Abuse Physicians and the Crown Prosecutor’s Office. Together, the group operates as a team to review and respond to allegations of physical and/or sexual abuse of children.
