The Regina Police Service confirms that a death investigation that began on Wednesday in the 1600 block of Rae Street is now considered a homicide investigation.
On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at approximately 2:35 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of Rae Street for a report of a weapons offence. Early information provided to police suggested a male was injured inside the residence. Patrol officers attended and located the body of an adult male, who was confirmed deceased by EMS.
Investigators from the RPS Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit attended to the scene to continue the investigation, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. This is the second homicide investigation in Regina in 2023.
The deceased male has been identified as 33 year-old Justin Michael LANKEY. Next of kin have been notified.
As a result of police investigation, 37 year-old Mitchell Ernest SANDERSON, of Regina, has been charged with
• Manslaughter [CC 236 (B)].
SANDERSON will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning (Thursday, April 6, 2023) at 9:30 a.m.
