The Regina Police Service is advising the public of the discharge of a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), commonly known as a Taser. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at approximately 5:05 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Cameron Street for a report of a break and enter. Shortly after officers arrived outside, multiple individuals left the residence and two males ran from police, ignoring police commands to stop. Police deployed a CEW on one of the males and he was taken into police custody. The male did not sustain injuries.
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee, which is a committee within the Service. All CEW deployments are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission, which is an oversight body independent of the Regina Police Service.
