An adult female is facing charges after a taxi cab driver was robbed of his vehicle early yesterday evening, May 3, 2023.
Police were called to the area of Dewdney Avenue and Cameron Street shortly after 5:00 p.m. When they arrived, they learned the victim had been robbed of his taxi at knifepoint. The victim told police that his fare, the female suspect, had directed him to take her to a location behind a business on the 3000 Block of Dewdney Avenue. When the driver stopped, the suspect got out of the vehicle, ordered the victim to exit the cab and threatened him with an axe. The victim stated that when he attempted to take the axe away from the suspect, she then threatened him with a knife before getting into the driver’s seat of the cab and leaving the scene.
The taxi company used GPS to provide police with the current location of the vehicle. Officers from the Robbery Unit, Patrol and Canine Unit attended to an address in the 1600 Block of Toronto Street, near Saskatchewan Drive where they located the suspect. She exited the residence and was arrested without further incident.
