On Thursday, May 4, 2023, at approximately 9:25 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Halifax Street that was registered to a suspended driver.
Police performed a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, informing him that he was a suspended driver and his vehicle was to be impounded. The driver relinquished his keys and he and his passengers exited the vehicle.
After the occupants exited, police observed ammunition in plain view inside the vehicle. As the driver was also under court ordered conditions where firearms and ammunition were prohibited, he was arrested.
A search of the vehicle yielded additional ammunition, a knife, and a firearm.
Twenty-eight year-old Kolton Wayne BARR, of Regina, is charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle [CC 94(1)];
- Fail to Comply with Condition of a Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)];
- 2 X Possess Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)] and
- Possession of Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized [CC 92(1)].
BARR made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Friday, May 5, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
