At approximately 10:20 a.m. today, August 16, 2023, the RPS Communications Centre received a call from someone using the play structure outside a school in the 400 Block of Hamilton Street. The caller stated there was a suspicious item on the ground under a bench.
Patrol officers attended and confirmed there was, in fact, an item of concern. A perimeter was established and the Explosives Disposal Team was called in.
Shortly after 2:00 p.m. today, investigators concluded their work in assessing the item and safely disposing of it. The item was assembled to look like an explosive device however, investigation revealed it was not. This appears to be an act of public mischief.
