On Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at approximately 5:10 p.m., police were dispatched to a business in the 400 block of Albert Street N for a report of a weapons offence. Information provided to police stated that multiple suspects wearing masks had sprayed a group of people with bear mace. The suspects then fled on foot.
When police arrived, Patrol officers learned two of the suspects had boarded a transit bus. Police located the bus at 7Th Avenue N and Smith Street N and arrested two male youths without incident. Bear mace was located on the bus and one of the males was also found to be carrying a bladed weapon on their person.
Through investigation, police learned the suspects approached a group of people inside the business and demanded their property. One of the suspects then sprayed the group with bear mace. As a result:
A 14 year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
• 4 X Robbery [CC 344 (1)(B)];
• Disguise With Intent [CC 351 (2)];
• Possession of a Weapon [CC 88].
A 15 year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
• 4 X Robbery [CC 344 (1)(B)];
• Disguise With Intent [CC 351 (2)];
• Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
• Carrying Concealed Weapon [CC 90].
Both youth made their first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court this morning (October 26, 2023) at 9:30 a.m.
