On the night of Sunday, September 15, 2024, at approximately 11:25 p.m., police observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Garnet Street and 6th Avenue. As police approached, the vehicle turned north onto Montague Street at a high rate of speed. Shortly after, police located the vehicle stopped on the middle of the intersection. The vehicle had hit the curb, and damage had rendered it not drivable. A lone male driver exit the vehicle and fled on foot on the sidewalk of 5th Avenue.
Police exited and engaged in foot pursuit to apprehend the fleeing driver. The male did not comply with police commands to stop, and discarded a can of bear spray and liquor bottle as he continued flight. Additional police officers arrived on scene, and the male was taken into custody. It was determined that the male was impaired, and also in breach of a condition of a release order. The male was subsequently charged for these offences.
