A 44 year-old male is facing charges after a traffic stop turned up a stolen vehicle and a firearm early yesterday morning.
Shortly before 4:00 a.m. yesterday (Thursday, October 3, 2024), a member of the Regina Police Service Canine Unit was patrolling in the 900 Block of Elphinstone Street when they observed a vehicle they believed to be stolen. The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle to an alley in the 1000 Block of Argyle Street where it came to a stop. Patrol Officers attended to the scene and assisted the Canine Unit in arresting the 44 year-old suspect without further incident.
A successful canine track turned up a second passenger from the vehicle who was hiding in a nearby yard.
Following the arrest, the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded firearm, ammunition, a large bladed weapon and an axe.
As a result, 44 year-old Zachary DUSTYHORN, is charged with:
- Careless Use of a Firearm [CC 86(1);
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91(1)];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon [CC 91(2)];
- Possession of Prohibited Weapon with Ammunition [CC 95(1)(A)];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Vehicle [CC 94(1)(a(ii)];
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 [CC 108(1)(A)];
- Tampering With a Serial Number of a Firearm [CC108(1)(A)];and
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88].
DUSTYHORN made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court, yesterday (October 3, 2024) at 2:00 p.m.
