On the morning of Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at approximately 10:20 a.m., police were dispatched to a business on the 1900 block of Hamilton Street for the report of a firearms offence. Information received stated that a male had been shot with a firearm.
Police arrived and observed Emergency Medical Services attending to the victim, a 26 year-old male. Police also recovered a discarded firearm nearby. The male was transported to hospital by EMS, where injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigation determined the gunshot was self-inflicted as a result of accidental discharge. The male was also found to be in possession of bear spray.
A 16 year-old female also on scene was arrested for possession of bear spray.
As a result, 26 year-old James Patrick Albert BLACKSIOUX, of Regina, is charged with:
- Careless Use of a Firearm [CC 86(1)];
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90]; and
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession Unauthorized [CC 92(1)].
A 16 year-old female, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90].
BLACKSIOUX and the youth are scheduled to make their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court and Provincial Youth Court respectively, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
