CODE OF ETHICS

Regina Police Service recognizes and respects the diversity of individuals within our communities. In some situations, language interpreters are required to provide assistance to ensure that individuals are able to communicate with and fully understand police employees. The following statements serve as a Code of Ethics for language interpreters.
When asked to provide interpretation services for Regina Police Service I will:
1.consider the interpreting assignment and refuse it if I am not able to provide ethical,accurate, and unbiased interpretation.
2.disclose any possible conflicts of interest regarding any connections to involved parties.
3.endeavour to prepare for interpreting assignments in advance by familiarizing myself with common policing terminology.
4.exert great effort to interpret information accurately and preserve the original message from the source language in as complete a form as possible.
5.remain unbiased and not show favour or preference to any parties involved, including police employees.
6.conduct myself and act in an ethical and professional manner that is respectful toward all parties involved.
7.not share my personal beliefs, add my opinion, or provide any speculative explanations when interpreting.
8.not omit, add to, change, or exaggerate any information when interpreting.
9.respect the privacy of all parties involved by not divulging any information to any person, organization, or entity regarding what is written, vocalized, or discussed throughout the course of any interpreting assignment(s).
CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK
All individuals will be required to undergo a criminal record check prior to providing interpretation services for the Regina Police Service . A criminal record check will be obtainable free of charge. The record check will be completed when you are contacted to provide interpretation services. Further security checks may be conducted if you are asked to interpret outside of business hours or for a serious criminal incident.
I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to the Regina Police Service’s Code of Ethics for language interpreters and consent to criminal record check.
