The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit has charged a man from Regina, Saskatchewan with a child pornography offense. Drew LaPlante, age 36, has been charged with the following offense;
• Making Written Child Pornography – Sec 163.1(2) CC
This investigation began on June 24, 2017, after the Saskatchewan ICE Unit became aware that an unknown person from Regina was chatting and engaging online with other chat room participants. The unknown user was identified on September 5 and arrested. Search warrants were subsequently executed at the accused’s workplace and residence where many digital devices were seized for forensic examination.
Drew LaPlante appeared in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Regina at 9:30 am on Wednesday, September 6.
The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.
